For the J series of smartphones, Samsung’s budget has received its annual refresh. The company has declared the Samsung J5 and J7 (2017), both of which get updates on last year’s design.

The Galaxy J5 (2017) will be available at the end of June t price of €280 (around Rs. 33,000) and Galaxy J7 (2017) will go for €340 (around Rs. 40,000) and will present to target and potential customers in July.

Specified that these prices are for particularly European markets, expect them to be a little higher when they launch in Pakistan.

Design and Display

When it comes to design there is no difference between the J5 and J7. They both feature the similar S7-like design on the frontage with bent antenna lines on the rear side. The back camera/flash outline features a vertical design opposing to the traditional horizontal exhibit that you see on most Samsung phones.

In terms of display, both the J5 and J7 feature a Super AMOLED display. The J5 has a 5.2″ 720p (1280 x 720) display screen while the J7 provide a 5.5″ 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution display.

A major variation between the two phones is the IP 54 water spray resistance for the J7, which the J5 doesn’t include.

This time J5 and J7 both feature a fingerprint sensor.

Internals and Storage

The J5 has 2 GB RAM whereas J7 has 3 GB. The internal storage space is also the equal at 16 GB for both. Flexible storage is incorporated with a microSD card slot to expand the capacity. The system-on-chip on the two devices is perfectly the same – Exynos 7870 Octa.

Android 7.0 Nougat is the by default OS version for the two smartphones beside Samsung’s custom UI.

Camera(s) and Battery

Primary cameras for the J5 and J7 use the similar 13 MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture and a LED flicker. The differentiation lies in the front cameras where the J7 contains a 13 MP shooter with a LED flash and the J5 simply has a 5 MP sensor.

Battery capacity for the J7 has been upgraded as compared to last year’s model. However, J5’s battery power has been downgraded. The Galaxy J7 has a 3,600 mAh battery (up from 3,300 mAh last year) whereas the J5 has a 3,000 mAh battery (down from 3,100 mAh from 2016).
