The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not taken the threat made by telecom providers regarding load-shedding of signals and data.
According to the information, PTA has written a letter to Telenor, Jazz, and Ufone and Jazz, asking them to state clearly the obstacles which are hindering the achievement of the targets for rollout.
PTA recognizes the financial challenges that telecom companies are facing. The telecom regulator is contemplating the possibility of increasing the tariffs offered by mobile phone operator (CMOs) to take on the impact of the current adverse economic conditions.

The letter further stated that in the conditions of the license recently signed, PTA holds the authority to grant relaxation to CMOs on rolling out targets in the case of genuine economic problems.
In the last week, CMOs sent a joint letter for the Director-General (DG) Enforcement PTA. The telecom companies have warned the PTA of the possibility of connectivity problems in the event that the government does not resolve the power issue.
CMOs had said that they’re struggling to deal with the issue despite having batteries and generators for backup, and adding that the length of load-shedding has exceeded capacity of backup.
