It is estimated that tens of thousands of people in Turkey and Syria have lost their lives since the massive earthquake struck on Feb. 6. As part of its efforts to assist earthquake victims, Samsung announced today that it will donate $3 million (currently about RMB 20.34 million) to Turkey and provide other assistance, including free appliances and repairs, to the victims of the disaster.

The Samsung Electronics Company has announced that it will donate $1.5 million (currently about RMB 10.17 million) in cash to the Turkish Disaster and Risk Management Agency. In addition to donating appliances for temporary shelters for earthquake victims, Samsung will also donate portable ultrasound diagnostic equipment that can be used in disaster areas, Samsung tablets that provide free education to children from affected families, free appliance repair trucks, and other goods worth a total of $1.5 million (currently about RMB 10.17 million) to help those in need.

The Samsung employees will conduct volunteer fundraising activities in order to provide support to the people in the affected areas of Turkey. The company has previously donated money to help people who have been affected by natural disasters. A donation of $1 million was made by the company (currently about RMB 6.78 million) after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, a donation of $760,000 (currently about RMB 5.153 million) during the 2011 earthquake in Japan, and a donation of $1 million (currently about RMB 6.78 million) after the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines.
