Earlier this week, AMD’s latest CPU model, Ryzen 9 7945HX, was spotted in some early benchmark results. According to the test results, AMD would be a very competitive company in laptop gaming this year based on the test results. Even though it has significantly fewer cores than its predecessors, the CPU was able to keep up with the fastest processors from Intel, even though it had much fewer cores than its predecessors.

At CES 2023, AMD made its first introduction of mobile variants of Zen 4 processors. It is now beginning to make its way onto laptops that use these CPUs. The flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX makes its debut in Geekbench 5 for the first time, making the strongest Geekbench 5 score ever seen for a Ryzen 9 7845HX.

According to AMD, the CPU is part of their gaming-oriented “Dragon Range” CPU portfolio. It is equipped with 16 cores and 32 threads and it can reach 5.4GHz at 55 watts, but if the full TDP of the processor is utilized, then it is likely that the clock speed will increase to 5.4GHz. This is a significant difference when compared to the Rembrandt CPUs of the previous generation, which only had eight cores and 16 threads on the top chip; the top chip in that generation had only four cores and eight threads.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a superb laptop with a dual screen and some of the best hardware of this generation, and this processor is found in this laptop. The GPU used was more than likely one of the most powerful Nvidia GPUs available, although we don’t know which one was used. Aside from that, the laptop is equipped with a 32GB DDR5 memory card.

In terms of the Ryzen 9 7945HX’s highest available score, it lands near the top of the list of processors that are available for both desktops and laptops. In the single-core test of Geekbench 5, the processor scored 2,217 points, and in the multi-core test of Geekbench 5, it scored 19,403 points.

According to this score, AMD’s single-core mobile CPUs are ahead of Intel’s Core i9-1398HX when it comes to single-core mobile CPUs, and it is not far behind it when it comes to multi-core mobile CPUs. When we include the average scores in the averages, Intel still wins in both categories, despite the fact that the average scores are slightly lower than the best.

Additionally, it is also fascinating to note how close the Ryzen 9 7945HX is to the desktop Ryzen 9 7900X, as well as how close the Ryzen 7950X is in terms of single-core performance to the desktop Ryzen 9 7950X. Due to the substantial difference in TDP (170 watts vs 55 watts), the mobile processor does exceptionally well in these benchmarks, which is not surprising given the substantial difference in TDP.
