Dr. Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, inaugurated Islamabad’s first e-Rozgar Center on Tuesday, in collaboration with Excel Consulting Services. This center boasts 100 workstations initially, with plans to expand to 300 in the future. Saif emphasized the significance of this initiative, marking the official commencement of a project aimed at establishing 10,000 e-rozgar centers nationwide. He highlighted the fulfillment of promises made to the people, providing ample opportunities for the burgeoning community of freelancers, numbering at 1.5 million presently.
The facilities offered at the center include high-speed internet, UPS, training centers, individual cabins, meeting rooms, and separate office spaces for start-ups. Saif projected that this initiative could potentially boost IT exports by $10 billion annually and significantly enhance the capacity and income of freelancers through public-private partnerships. The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) will play a crucial role in providing technical support to freelancers at these centers.

Saif credited the swift implementation of decisions in the IT and Telecom sector to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), functioning effectively during the caretaker tenure. He expressed optimism about the roadmap for Digital Pakistan laid out during this period, hoping that the incoming government would continue to prioritize the promotion of Pakistan’s digital economy.
The inauguration event saw the presence of Additional Secretary MoITT Ayesha Moriani, Member IT Syed Junaid Imam, Project Director Amir Ahmed, Chairman EC Services Nazir Qureshi, along with officials from MoITT, NTS, PSEB, and a multitude of freelancers.
