The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is facing criticism for the delay in releasing the results of yesterday’s elections. Despite issuing a stern warning to provincial election commissioners and returning officers to announce the General Elections 2024 results within thirty minutes or face consequences, official results for most National Assembly and provincial assembly seats are still pending.

Unofficial results indicate that independent candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are leading on a majority of the national assembly seats. The Interior Ministry has addressed concerns about the delay, attributing it to a “lack of communication” resulting from security measures implemented to ensure comprehensive security. After evaluating the situation, the Ministry deemed the current state satisfactory.

However, despite assurances from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding uninterrupted internet services, users across the country experienced lengthy outages. The Interior Ministry clarified that recent militant attacks resulting in loss of lives necessitated security measures to maintain law and order and address potential threats.
