Pakistan announced a national day of mourning following the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash, alongside the country’s foreign minister and other high-ranking officials.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement expressing Pakistan’s grief, declaring a “Day of Mourning” in honor of President Raisi. A social media post on his account stated that the Pakistani flag would be flown at half-mast as a gesture of respect for President Raisi, his companions, and in solidarity with Iran.

PM Sharif recalled hosting President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian less than a month prior, emphasizing their close ties with Pakistan and referring to them as good friends.

President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his condolences and paid tribute to the late Iranian President, highlighting his contributions to the Muslim world’s unity and causes. Zardari praised Raisi’s unwavering support for Muslim issues, particularly the Palestinian and Kashmiri causes, and hailed him as a staunch ally of Pakistan.

Zardari remarked that Raisi’s passing is not only a loss for Iran but for the entire Muslim community. He lauded Raisi’s efforts in strengthening ties with regional and Islamic nations, expressing fond remembrance for his dedication to Ummah.
