The Punjab government has recently announced the launch of the “Chief Minister Roshan Gharana” program, which aims to distribute free solar systems to 50,000 households across the province.

As part of this initiative, the provincial government has finalized the process for providing these solar panels at no cost to the public. The scheme targets households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month, with the government covering all expenses related to the solar systems and their installation.

Key points of the program include:

  1. Eligibility Criteria:
    • Households must consume up to 100 units of electricity per month.
    • Those involved in electricity theft, meter tampering, or other illegal activities are not eligible.
    • Applicants must be Pakistani citizens with a valid CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card).
    • Applicants must own the property or have authorization from the property owner for the installation of solar panels.
  2. Verification Process:
    • Data on families consuming up to 100 units per month will be collected and sent to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC).
    • After verification, the data will be forwarded to the Punjab Information Technology Board for final approval.

  1. Registration Process:
    • Eligible families can register for the scheme by sending their bill reference number and CNIC via SMS to 8800.
    • After verification, applicants will be informed of the results.
    • Alternatively, citizens can apply through a designated website provided by the overseeing government authority or by visiting any Bank of Punjab branch.

The entire project is expected to cost 10 billion rupees, fully funded by the Punjab government, ensuring no cost burden on the beneficiaries.
