The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rolled out an extensive plan to combat the illegal use of mobile SIMs. To address this issue, PTA has collaborated with NADRA to gather data that will help identify and block unauthorized SIMs. This initiative is designed to prevent illegal activities and safeguard citizens’ data.

The SIM-blocking process will occur in three phases. In the first phase, SIMs registered with fake or canceled CNICs will be targeted. The second phase will address SIMs registered with expired CNICs, while the third phase will focus on those registered under the names of deceased individuals. This phased approach ensures a systematic and thorough process.

To keep the public informed, PTA has launched a campaign urging subscribers to verify and update their SIM data. The authority stresses the importance of this verification to avoid any disruption in service. The blocking process is set to begin on August 16, marking a significant step towards securing Pakistan’s communication network.

PTA has made it clear that the illegal use of SIMs will not be tolerated, as these SIMs are often linked to criminal activities. By blocking unauthorized SIMs, PTA aims to eliminate this threat and maintain the integrity of the telecom sector, contributing to a safer digital environment.
