A massive sinkhole unexpectedly appeared on Main Boulevard in Johar Town, Lahore, swallowing a car and two motorcycles. The incident caused severe traffic disruptions in the area. According to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the sinkhole was caused by a leak in an underground sewer line, which had gradually weakened the road.

Two people, who were trapped inside the car when the sinkhole suddenly formed, sustained injuries but were rescued with the help of nearby residents. A video of the rescue was widely shared on social media.

In response, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore immediately diverted traffic from the affected area, resulting in heavy congestion on alternative routes.

This incident is the fourth sinkhole in Johar Town within recent months. In a prior case, a woman and her child were injured when their vehicle was pulled into a sinkhole.

The recent record-breaking rains in Lahore have worsened the situation, damaging the city’s drainage infrastructure. In August, heavy rains caused the collapse of an old sewer line on Khayaban-i-Firdausi, leading to another large sinkhole.

Local residents and commuters are urging authorities to take action on the recurring infrastructure issues and improve road safety in the area.
