Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a delegation of Chinese investors led by Mr. Wan Xiaowu, Chairman of the Belt and Road (B&R) Group, to discuss facilitating private Chinese investment in Karachi. The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning and Development and Energy Nasir Shah, Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, Chairman of P&D Najam Shah, and Secretary to the CM Raheem Shaikh.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his government’s openness to welcoming both public and private Chinese firms to invest in projects of their choice or to engage in Public-Private partnerships with the Sindh government.
Mr. Wan Xiaowu mentioned that over 12 leading Chinese firms are interested in investing in Karachi, focusing on sectors such as waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, electric bus manufacturing, electric conversion kits for motorcycles, and the reconstruction of the city’s sewerage system. The Chief Minister assured that his government would provide all necessary support for these firms to establish their operations.

Both the Chief Minister and the Chairman of the B&R Group agreed to hold another meeting with the Planning & Development Department and the Board of Investment to identify specific projects and negotiate terms to initiate work.
