Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif made explosive claims during his address at the cheque distribution ceremony for the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ housing program. Sharif alleged that he still possesses audio recordings of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, which he claims expose a plot against him and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz. According to Sharif, the leaks suggest a coordinated effort to keep him and his daughter in prison while promoting Imran Khan to power.

Sharif stated, “In these audio leaks, Saqib Nisar can be heard saying, ‘We will keep Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in jail and bring Imran Khan to power’,” further claiming that the recordings remain in his possession. He linked this alleged conspiracy to Pakistan’s political chaos, asserting that it played a role in the creation of the ‘London plan’ and the subsequent political sit-ins. Sharif suggested that these events were a direct result of manipulations happening behind closed doors.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s political history, Sharif expressed frustration over the interference in democratic processes. He argued that if democratic governments, including his own, had been allowed to function without obstruction, the country would have been in a much better position today. He pointed out that fewer Pakistanis would be homeless had such political interference not occurred.

Sharif also revisited the events leading to his ouster in 2017, questioning the motives behind his removal. “Why was a person who worked day and night for Pakistan’s development treated this way?” he asked, reiterating his view that his dismissal was part of a larger conspiracy. The PML-N leader took aim at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government that succeeded him, accusing them of failing to fulfill their key promises, particularly the pledges to build five million homes and create ten million jobs. “Where are the homes and jobs that Imran Khan promised?” he challenged.

The former prime minister also criticized the PTI’s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, pointing out the lack of meaningful improvements in the province’s welfare. Sharif also targeted PTI’s Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, accusing him of trying to stir tensions between provinces by “infiltrating” Punjab.

Sharif’s speech included a sharp critique of the political instability he claims was orchestrated from abroad. He reiterated his long-standing belief that a conspiracy was hatched in London to remove his government. He alleged that political opponents, who had just returned from London, were behind the protests and sit-ins that destabilized his tenure. Sharif recounted receiving a message to resign or face consequences, to which he responded defiantly, “I told them to do whatever they want, but Nawaz Sharif will never resign.”

In his closing remarks, Sharif drew a stark contrast between his party’s values and those of others. He emphasized that the PML-N stands by May 28th—Pakistan’s nuclear test day—rather than May 9th, the day that marked riots and unrest. His speech reaffirmed his belief that external forces and political conspiracies have derailed Pakistan’s democratic progress.
