Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Monday that the completion of Gwadar International Airport demonstrated the Chinese leadership’s dedication to supporting Pakistan’s economic agenda and developing its underdeveloped areas.
During a virtual inauguration ceremony of the newly completed Gwadar International Airport, the prime minister emphasized that this achievement symbolized the strong and enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. He expressed optimism that the new airport would transform the economy of Gwadar and contribute to Pakistan’s overall economic growth.
Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif and Li Qiang jointly unveiled the plaque for Gwadar International Airport, with both countries’ ministers, military leaders, and senior officials in attendance.

Sharif mentioned that earlier in the day, multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Pakistan and China, spanning various sectors like industry, commerce, and agriculture. He anticipated that these MoUs would soon evolve into formal agreements, further solidifying the cooperation between the two nations.
He expressed gratitude to China, particularly President Xi Jinping, Premier Li, and the Chinese people, for their generous contribution in the form of Gwadar International Airport, calling it a significant addition to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Premier Li Qiang congratulated Pakistan on the airport’s completion, describing it as a testament to the dedication of both Chinese and Pakistani engineers and workers. He also recognized the importance of this project in enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic growth. Li reiterated China’s commitment to working closely with Pakistan in pursuit of high standards, sustainability, and mutual economic development under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also highlighted the enduring strength of Pak-China relations, referring to them as a unique and unbreakable strategic partnership.
