During a press conference in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of deliberately fabricating a false narrative around an alleged assault at a Punjab college in order to incite public unrest. According to her, the incident—claimed to have occurred on October 10—was entirely fictional. She explained that the girl said to have been assaulted wasn’t even at the college on the day in question.

“They claimed that CCTV footage had been erased, but in reality, no such event ever took place,” she asserted. Maryam further alleged that PTI had first created a fake story and then tried to find a victim, but no witnesses were found because the incident was completely fabricated.

Maryam also noted that the girl mentioned in the rumors had been hospitalized since October 2, and the security guard accused of the crime was on leave at the time. The guard, who was later arrested in Sargodha, is currently under investigation.

She condemned PTI’s use of social media to mislead the public, calling it a “dangerous plan” to compensate for their repeated failures in organizing protests. The mother of the alleged victim had also requested that those behind the conspiracy be exposed, Maryam revealed.

The Chief Minister stressed that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in spreading false information, irrespective of their political affiliation. “This country belongs to all of us. The authorities have been instructed to crack down on those responsible for this misinformation—whether linked to PTI, the media, or Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s party,” she emphasized.

Maryam also advised education officials not to suspend the college’s registration without due cause and assured that justice would be delivered. “Whoever orchestrated this fabricated incident will not be spared,” she said.

This accusation marks another escalation in the growing tensions between the ruling party and PTI, with both sides continuing to trade accusations of spreading disinformation. The incident has sparked heated discussions across social media platforms, but Maryam Nawaz’s statements indicate the government’s firm stance on addressing politically motivated falsehoods head-on.
