The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the implementation of a hybrid model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, meaning that India will play all its matches at a neutral venue. Dubai has been officially selected as the host city for these matches, following strained relations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
After much speculation, reports now confirm that India’s group-stage matches will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This neutral venue has been chosen due to its logistical advantages, accessibility, and a proven track record of hosting major cricket events.
While Colombo had initially been considered a potential host, especially after it successfully hosted India’s 2023 Asia Cup matches under a similar hybrid model, recent reports indicate that the BCCI and PCB have reached an agreement in favor of Dubai. ICC officials and broadcasters have endorsed this decision due to Dubai’s central location and world-class infrastructure. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host at least three of India’s group-stage games, with the possibility of more matches if India progresses to the semi-finals or final.
Dubai: A Trusted Venue for Global Cricket
Dubai International Cricket Stadium has long been a preferred venue for major international cricket events, hosting several ICC tournaments. With its state-of-the-art facilities and history of managing high-profile matches, it is an ideal location for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

ICC’s Hybrid Model: A Strategic Solution
The ICC’s hybrid model, officially adopted in a recent board meeting, ensures that India and Pakistan will not play each other’s home games until 2027. Instead, their encounters will take place at neutral venues. This decision applies not only to the Champions Trophy but also to women’s ICC events, such as the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028, which Pakistan is set to host. The model aims to maintain consistent scheduling while mitigating logistical challenges due to ongoing political tensions.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will feature eight teams, divided into two groups:
- Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
- Group B: Australia, England, South Africa, Afghanistan
Tournament Schedule
With the venue and logistical arrangements now finalized, the ICC is expected to release the tournament schedule soon, with rumors suggesting an official announcement could come as early as today.
