WhatsApp is currently developing a new feature that will allow users to assign custom labels to themselves in group chats. This update, discovered by WABetaInfo in the latest beta build for Android, is now available for testing.

Custom Labels in Group Chats

With this upcoming feature, WhatsApp users can set personalized labels for themselves within each group they participate in. These labels will be visible to both current and future members of the group, but will remain exclusive to that group and not be shared with others outside it. Once set, the label stays in place unless the user decides to change it, even after reinstalling or resetting WhatsApp.

Suggested Labels for Group Members

WhatsApp will also offer preset labels, such as “Jordan’s parent,” “coach,” or “chairperson,” but users can create their own labels that best fit their role within a group. The main goal of this feature is to improve organization in group chats, allowing members to easily identify each person’s role in a conversation.

When Will This Feature Be Available?

While there is no confirmed timeline for its official release, WhatsApp typically rolls out new features gradually. This means it could take several weeks or even months before it becomes available to all users. However, since the feature is now included in the beta version, it is clear that WhatsApp is actively working on it and will likely introduce it in a future update.

For now, beta testers can explore this feature and provide feedback to help shape its final implementation.
