The newly appointed seven judges of the Supreme Court took their oath on Friday in an outdoor ceremony held in front of the iconic apex court building.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi administered the oath to six permanent judges and one acting judge.

Traditionally, the oath-taking ceremony takes place in the Supreme Court’s Ceremonial Hall. However, for the first time, it was conducted outside the building, at the location where former CJP Qazi Faez Isa had inaugurated the Fundamental Rights Monument during his tenure.

The judges who took the oath include Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Shakeel Ahmad, Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb (acting judge).

These appointments were made by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on February 10, despite a boycott by two senior Supreme Court judges and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Originally scheduled for Thursday, February 13, the oath-taking ceremony was postponed due to a delay in the issuance of appointment notifications for the Supreme Court judges and acting chief justices of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Peshawar High Court, Sindh High Court, and Balochistan High Court.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori administered the oath to the newly appointed acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC), Justice Junaid Ghaffar.
