The Punjab government has officially banned washing cars at home using water pipes, enforcing a fine of Rs. 10,000 on those caught wasting water. This decision is part of a broader initiative to conserve water resources amid declining rainfall in the province.
Water Conservation Measures Under Punjab Environmental Act
The ban has been implemented under the Punjab Environmental Act, following directives from the Lahore High Court. Officials have reported that Punjab has received 42% less rainfall over the past five years, highlighting the urgent need for water conservation.

Crackdown on Illegal Car Service Stations
To further curb water wastage, authorities have shut down illegal car service stations. Additionally, petrol pumps and service stations without a water recycling system must install one by February 28, 2025, or face a fine of Rs. 100,000.
Additional Environmental Protection Measures
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been assigned to monitor and enforce these regulations. The government has also banned the use of oil for vehicle washing and the extraction of groundwater at construction sites to prevent environmental degradation.
