Azerbaijan is set to receive its first batch of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from Pakistan, with ongoing discussions for future joint production. This was confirmed by Information Minister Atta Tarar during an interview with a private news channel.

Strengthening Defense & Economic Ties

  • Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has shown keen interest in expanding defense cooperation with Pakistan.
  • In addition to military collaboration, Azerbaijan has pledged a $2 billion investment in Pakistan to boost economic ties.
  • Talks regarding the investment deal are in their final stages, with agreements expected to be signed during President Aliyev’s visit to Islamabad in April.

During recent bilateral discussions, both countries signed several agreements and MoUs, including:

  • Amendments to the LNG trade framework between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
  • Advancements in the White Oil Pipeline Project to enhance energy connectivity.
  • Declaration of Nakhchivan (Azerbaijan) and Lahore (Pakistan) as twin cities, fostering stronger economic and cultural ties.

Officials from both nations have encouraged businesses to explore emerging investment opportunities, further strengthening bilateral relations.
