Google Prepares for an Accelerated Android 16 Rollout
Android 16, the highly anticipated OS update for Android devices, is reportedly set for an early release in June 2025. A Google official disclosed this information during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. While Google has traditionally launched major Android updates in August, this year’s release appears to be ahead of schedule.
Android 16 Release Timeline and Development Approach
Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, confirmed to Android Police that Android 16 is on track for an early launch, attributing the accelerated schedule to Google’s new Trunk Stable development model. This approach involves frequent small updates to a shared branch of code, allowing for a smoother and faster integration process compared to traditional feature-based development.

Despite being in the developer beta phase, Android 16 is expected to transition to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3, 2025. This will allow manufacturers and developers to build custom versions of the OS tailored for different devices.

The recent Android 16 Beta 2.1 update introduced crucial bug fixes for connectivity, system stability, and performance, ensuring a more polished user experience upon full release.
