Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s role in counter-terrorism efforts across the region.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), PM Shehbaz stated that President Trump’s acknowledgment followed the successful apprehension of ISKP’s top-tier operational commander, Shareefullah, an Afghan national, by Pakistan’s security forces. The wanted terrorist was captured in a Pakistan-Afghanistan border region operation, he added.

During his first address to Congress since assuming office for a second term, President Trump announced the arrest of the individual responsible for the 2021 Kabul airport bombing, which claimed the lives of 13 US service members. He credited Pakistan’s cooperation in facilitating the arrest, stating:
“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity… I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster.”
In response, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to counter-terrorism, highlighting the country’s long-standing role in eliminating safe havens for terrorists and militant groups.
He emphasized Pakistan’s steadfast resolve in combating terrorism, underscoring the sacrifices of over 80,000 soldiers and citizens in the fight against terror.
“The resolve of our leadership and our people remains unflinching to eradicate the menace of terrorism from our country. We will continue to partner closely with the United States in securing regional peace and stability,” the prime minister added.
