The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially launched its search for a new permanent head coach, marking a major step toward reshaping the national team’s coaching structure. The PCB published a formal job advertisement on its website this Saturday, inviting applications from candidates holding Level III coaching certification and at least 10 years of experience coaching national or domestic cricket teams.
Aqib Javed Likely to Shift Focus to High-Performance Role
This announcement comes amid growing indications that former interim coach Aqib Javed is no longer interested in continuing as the team’s head coach. Sources suggest Javed is now aiming for the role of Director of the High-Performance Centre, a position left vacant after Nadeem Khan’s resignation.
The PCB has also opened applications for this post, signaling an impending reshuffle in Pakistan’s cricket management.
Coaching Changes and Javed’s Interim Journey
Aqib Javed was initially appointed as the interim white-ball head coach in November last year, following Gary Kirsten’s exit ahead of the Australia tour. After the sudden departure of Jason Gillespie due to disagreements with the PCB, Javed was elevated to all-format interim head coach.
Though his tenure was originally set to conclude after the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, it was later extended for the team’s white-ball series in New Zealand, which wrapped up earlier this month.

Now, the PCB has opted not to extend Javed’s contract further, though he remains a strong contender for the High-Performance Centre Director role.
Foreign Coach Likely as PCB Faces Local Talent Shortage
With few qualified Pakistani coaches available, the board is reportedly considering a foreign coach — though this time it is expected to avoid chasing high-profile international names, instead focusing on finding a coach who can align with the team’s current strategy and long-term development.
