This April, YouTube celebrated its 20th anniversary, marking two decades since co-founder Jawed Karim uploaded the platform’s very first video, “Me at the Zoo”, in 2005.

Now a subsidiary of Google, YouTube has grown from a simple video-sharing platform into a powerhouse across entertainment, music, and technology. To commemorate the milestone, YouTube shared some impressive statistics. Every day, more than 20 million videos are uploaded, and in 2024, users posted an average of 100 million comments daily. Creators also engage by giving hearts to around 10 million comments each day.

YouTube also reported that last year, videos on the platform received over 3.5 billion likes every day. Additionally, more than 300 music videos have surpassed a billion views, highlighting the platform’s enormous global reach and influence.

The anniversary celebrations also extended to YouTube Music and YouTube Kids, which are both marking their 10th year. Notably, YouTube Music was initially developed under the code name “Woodstock” before its official launch.

Looking to the future, YouTube plans to enhance its services with more AI-driven features and continue expanding its Premium subscriptions. The company emphasized that increasing Premium subscriptions would help sustain and reward the global creator community.

As YouTube enters its third decade, it remains at the forefront of how audiences discover and engage with digital content across mobile, web, and big screen devices.
