In a significant relief for power consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has officially announced a reduction of Rs. 1.55 per unit in electricity prices across the country. This decrease has been implemented under the third quarterly adjustment for the current fiscal year and will be applicable for a period of three months.

According to NEPRA’s official notification, this decision is expected to benefit consumers nationwide, bringing a total financial relief of Rs. 52.60 billion. The tariff adjustment reflects a cost recalculation based on changes in fuel prices and power generation costs during the previous quarter.

The reduction will be applicable to all power distribution companies except for K-Electric, as NEPRA issues separate determinations for Karachi-based consumers. Consumers can expect to see the decreased rate reflected in their upcoming electricity bills over the next three months.

NEPRA stated that this move is part of a regular tariff adjustment mechanism that aims to align electricity prices with actual generation costs and economic conditions. By lowering the tariff, the government aims to ease the burden on households and businesses amid prevailing inflation and economic pressures.

However, this reduction is temporary and will be reviewed again in the next quarterly adjustment, depending on changes in fuel costs, exchange rates, and other economic factors affecting power generation.

Consumers and businesses have welcomed the decision, calling it a much-needed breather during challenging times. Analysts believe this price cut will slightly ease inflationary pressure and could stimulate more efficient energy usage across sectors.

NEPRA has also advised consumers to stay informed about future adjustments and encouraged the use of energy-efficient practices to reduce overall electricity expenses.
