TikTok has rolled out a new feature called AI Alive, which lets users transform static photos into animated video clips using simple text prompts. Powered by ByteDance’s proprietary image-to-video AI model, the tool is now accessible via TikTok’s Story Camera.
How It Works:
To use AI Alive, users open the Story Camera, choose a photo from the Story Album, and tap the new “AI Alive” icon. A text box appears, prompting the user to describe the desired animation. The AI then creates a video that adds life to the still image.
TikTok says the tool can generate animations like changing weather, moving clouds, facial expressions, and more. For example, a sunset photo can be turned into a cinematic scene with color shifts, drifting clouds, and ambient sounds. Group selfies can also be animated with subtle gestures and effects to make them more shareable and engaging.
Built-in Safety and Transparency:
To promote responsible use, all AI-generated videos will include C2PA metadata, making it clear that the content was created by AI. TikTok noted that generated outputs are subject to multi-layered review processes to detect and block any inappropriate or harmful content.
While the feature is now live, TikTok has yet to release a public demo, and its real-world effectiveness remains to be seen.
