Switzerland Launches World’s First Removable Solar Panels on Railway Tracks
Switzerland has become the first country to install removable solar panels between active railway tracks, thanks to a pilot project by Swiss start-up Sun-Ways near Buttes. The innovative system allows for quick installation and removal, avoiding disruption to train services and track maintenance.
Supported by the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion, the project aims to use unused railway space for clean energy production. If implemented nationwide, it could generate up to 2% of Switzerland’s electricity—enough to power around 300,000 homes.
