A recent Israeli airstrike has tragically killed at least 24 Palestinians, including women and children, in a tent encampment housing displaced families in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, according to local health authorities. This devastating incident occurred on Sunday as mediators hosted a fresh round of indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.

Israel has intensified its military offensive within the Gaza enclave, significantly increasing its bombing campaign, which has reportedly claimed the lives of hundreds of people in the preceding 72 hours. Medics at the scene reported that the latest strike also injured dozens and ignited several tents.

The Gaza health ministry condemned the recent Israeli actions, stating that hundreds of Palestinians had been killed in strikes over the past few days, even during a visit to the region by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Hamas, in a statement released on Sunday, denounced the airstrike as a “new brutal crime” and held the U.S. administration responsible for the escalating violence. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on this specific strike but had earlier stated its ongoing extensive strikes across Gaza as part of its strategy to achieve its war objectives.

Meanwhile, Egyptian and Qatari mediators, with the backing of the United States, initiated a new phase of indirect ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas on Saturday. However, sources close to the discussions in Doha, the Qatari capital, informed Reuters that no significant breakthrough has been achieved, with both sides adhering to their established positions.
