Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan Agree to Extend CPEC Under BRI Framework

Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan have agreed to expand cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan. This consensus was reached during an informal trilateral meeting held on Wednesday.

The meeting brought together Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, China’s Foreign Minister and CPC Political Bureau Member Wang Yi, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the three leaders reaffirmed the importance of trilateral cooperation in promoting regional peace, economic connectivity, and development.

During the talks, the ministers emphasized the need to strengthen diplomatic dialogue, improve communication channels, and take practical measures to enhance trade, infrastructure development, and regional integration. These efforts are seen as vital to achieving shared prosperity and stability.

The ministers also reiterated their commitment to combating terrorism and fostering long-term regional peace and economic growth.

Additionally, the parties agreed to hold the 6th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kabul at an early and mutually convenient date.
