In a renewed diplomatic standoff, Pakistan has expelled an Indian High Commission official, declaring him persona non grata and ordering him to leave the country within 24 hours. The decision comes amid allegations that the diplomat engaged in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic status.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement confirming the expulsion. It stated that the Indian Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office and formally informed of the government’s decision. According to a spokesperson, the expelled Indian official was found involved in activities deemed suspicious and incompatible with diplomatic norms.
The spokesperson emphasized that no foreign diplomat should misuse their privileges or interfere in internal matters while serving in Pakistan. The designation “persona non grata” is a formal diplomatic term used to declare a foreign envoy unwelcome, often due to violations of international conduct or interference in domestic affairs.

This development mirrors a recent action by the Indian government, which earlier expelled a Pakistani diplomat under similar allegations. That official was also given 24 hours to leave India, accused of behavior breaching diplomatic responsibilities.
The Indian government has reiterated the importance of adhering to the Vienna Convention, urging all diplomatic staff to avoid any actions that may damage bilateral relations.
These tit-for-tat expulsions have intensified the already tense relationship between Pakistan and India, two nuclear-armed neighbors with a history of diplomatic clashes and mutual distrust.
