The Sindh Education Department has officially prohibited the presentation of Ajrak, Sindhi topi, and other gift items during government ceremonies, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.
The order, dispatched from Karachi, also bans the common practice of students welcoming guests at public events and ceremonies held by government institutions. The notification instructs all education officers and staff to strictly adhere to the new regulations.
According to the department, the directive aims to create uniformity in official public-sector events and eliminate ceremonial customs that are considered unnecessary. The notification has been circulated to all relevant authorities, including the heads of government schools and educational institutions, instructing that these traditional practices be immediately discontinued across all government functions.

The department clarified that the ban is effective for all official events, whether organized at schools, colleges, or any other government venues. Officials emphasized that the decision is intended to refocus events on their core purpose, rather than on symbolic rituals.
Authorities warned that any breach of the directive could lead to disciplinary action. While some have welcomed the move as a step towards modernizing government protocols, others have criticized it as an erosion of Sindhi cultural identity within public institutions.
