At least 55 Palestinians, including a journalist, have been killed in the past 24 hours due to ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza, according to Al Jazeera.

A series of Israeli airstrikes targeted the central Gaza area of Bureij, killing at least 23 people. Another 10 Palestinians lost their lives while attempting to collect aid from a controversial US-backed organization, Gaza’s health ministry reported. Victims were rushed to Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals, with medical teams saying they spent over 30 minutes recovering bodies from the scene.

The Government Media Office condemned the incident, stating that Israeli forces “opened direct fire on hungry Palestinian civilians who had gathered to receive aid,” injuring at least 62 people.

Tragically, Palestinian journalist Moataz Raja was also killed when an Israeli aircraft targeted a civilian vehicle on al-Nafaq Street in Gaza City. The Gaza Journalists Syndicate labeled the act as an “assassination” and confirmed that Raja died instantly. According to the syndicate, at least 221 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour accused Israel of weaponizing humanitarian aid, saying it is being used as a tool of war.

Since the collapse of a ceasefire on March 18, Gaza’s health ministry reports that at least 3,785 more Palestinians have died, pushing the total death toll to 53,939 — mostly civilians — according to AFP. Al Jazeera reports the overall death toll has reached at least 61,000 since October 2023, with the majority being women and children.

The conflict has displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population of 2 million, created a severe hunger crisis, and devastated the region’s infrastructure.

In response to alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Meanwhile, Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in Gaza.
