Meta is set to launch a new artificial intelligence research lab focused on developing “superintelligence” — AI systems that surpass human cognitive abilities, according to a report by The New York Times. This initiative is part of Meta’s broader strategy to stay ahead in the fast-paced AI landscape.

To lead the ambitious project, Meta has brought in Alexandr Wang, the 28-year-old founder and CEO of Scale AI. Wang’s deep expertise in AI is expected to drive the development of the advanced technology at the heart of this new lab. Meta is also in talks to invest billions of dollars into Scale AI, with the intention of integrating its talent into Meta’s workforce.

In a bid to attract top-tier talent, Meta has reportedly offered highly competitive compensation packages — some ranging from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars — to leading AI researchers from companies such as OpenAI and Google. Many have already accepted these offers and are joining the new AI division.

This move comes amid Meta’s efforts to overcome internal challenges, including leadership changes, staff departures, and lackluster product rollouts. The new lab represents a major push to refocus its AI strategy and reclaim a leading position in the global tech race.
