The German Embassy in Islamabad has launched a new online portal aimed at simplifying and speeding up the work visa application process for Pakistani citizens. The platform, accessible at digital.diplo.de/visa, is designed to reduce waiting times, increase processing capacity, and eliminate long appointment backlogs.

Through this digital system, applicants can now complete an online questionnaire, upload all necessary documents, and have their application reviewed before visiting the embassy. This step-by-step process helps ensure that applications are complete, allowing in-person appointments to proceed more efficiently.

Currently, the portal supports multiple visa categories including the EU Blue Card, skilled worker visas, self-employment, the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), and recognition of academic qualifications from Pakistan. While submission is digital, applicants must still attend an appointment to provide biometric data, confirm their identity, and pay the visa fee.

The embassy has encouraged those awaiting appointments to use the new system, as more visa categories will be transitioned to this platform over time.

In a related update, the German Consulate General in Karachi has introduced a new appointment system due to high demand. Applicants must now register on a waiting list instead of booking directly. Appointments for Schengen and long-term visas will be assigned in order of registration, while Opportunity Card applicants can continue to book directly.

Both the embassy and consulate emphasize that these digital reforms aim to enhance efficiency and improve the overall visa experience, ultimately making it easier for Pakistani professionals to access work opportunities in Germany and across Europe.
