Pakistan Post has announced a significant change to its parcel pricing structure, effective July 1, 2025. The new system will calculate shipping charges for general parcels and Express Mail Service (EMS) — both domestic and international — based on volumetric weight instead of solely on actual weight.

This adjustment brings Pakistan Post in line with practices already adopted by major private courier companies operating locally and globally.

As per a circular from the postal headquarters, volumetric weight will be calculated by multiplying a parcel’s length, width, and height in centimeters, then dividing the result by 5,000. The greater of the actual or volumetric weight will be used to determine the final charge.

The decision aims to boost revenue and reduce operational losses, especially from large but lightweight parcels that previously incurred high handling costs without proportional returns.

While the actual weight limit remains 30 kilograms, parcels exceeding volumetric thresholds will now be subject to additional charges.

This change was formally approved in a recent meeting of the Postal Services Management Board.
