The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has issued a nationwide alert, warning of severe monsoon activity across the country from June 29 to July 5, with a high risk of flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in vulnerable regions.

Regions at Risk

According to the NEOC advisory, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and northern areas such as Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Balakot, Murree, and Galiyat are expected to experience heavy downpours, which could trigger landslides and cause streams and rivers to overflow.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cities like Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Swat, Chitral, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Mardan are at risk of urban flooding. Major rivers, including the Kabul and Swat, may witness significant increases in water flow, escalating flood threats.

In Punjab, northern and central districts—including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, and Kasur—are forecasted to receive torrential rainfall, raising alarms for flooding in low-lying areas.

From July 2 to July 5, parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Dadu, and Jamshoro, are likely to be impacted by intense rain spells accompanied by urban flooding and stormy conditions.

Additional Hazards

The advisory also highlights the risk of flash floods in hilly terrains such as Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir, and the Pir Panjal range. Other dangers include the collapse of weak structures, falling trees, billboards, and power lines, along with dust storms, reduced visibility, and waterlogged roads.

Public Safety Measures

Authorities have urged the public to:

  • Avoid crossing rivers and streams during rainfall
  • Stay informed through local weather updates
  • Refrain from sheltering near weak infrastructure
  • Use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time alerts and guidance

Travelers are advised to check weather conditions before planning any journeys and take precautions in high-risk areas.
