Qualcomm is set to host its highly anticipated Snapdragon Summit next month, where the chipmaker is expected to unveil its most powerful mobile processors to date. Android enthusiasts and smartphone manufacturers alike are eagerly awaiting the launch of Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
The next-gen flagship chipset, believed to carry the model number SM8850, may officially be named Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. This chip is expected to power the majority of premium Android smartphones in 2026 from leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Vivo.
Adding to the excitement, a second high-end chip with model number SM8845 may also be in development. According to trusted tipster Digital Chat Station, this could be named Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 — a surprising move that hints at Qualcomm revamping its naming strategy.

Until now, Qualcomm maintained a straightforward naming structure with its “Gen” series (e.g., Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3). However, the introduction of the Snapdragon 8 Elite line last year indicated a shift. Now, it appears Qualcomm may be building a three-tier flagship lineup:
-
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (top-tier)
-
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (upper flagship)
-
Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 (premium mid-range)
This tiered structure would help the company better segment performance levels and price points.
While it’s uncertain whether both the Elite 2 and Gen 5 chips will be launched at the Hawaii summit, the primary spotlight will likely be on the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, poised to lead the next generation of Android flagships.
Qualcomm has yet to confirm the official names or specifications, but with the event just weeks away, official details are expected soon. Regardless of the final branding, one thing is certain: major performance upgrades are on the horizon for Android smartphones.
Stay tuned for live updates and announcements from the Snapdragon Summit.
