The much-anticipated summit between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded in Alaska with no breakthrough on the ongoing war in Ukraine. Despite nearly three hours of closed-door discussions, the two leaders departed without reaching any agreement, leaving global observers in suspense.

Meeting under intense international scrutiny, Trump and Putin maintained a friendly demeanor, sharing a warm handshake upon arrival and avoiding confrontation during the talks. However, both declined to answer questions from the press afterward, fueling speculation about the meeting’s true substance.

Trump claimed that “progress was made” but admitted, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” signaling that significant hurdles remain. He also urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—who was notably absent from the summit—to pursue a negotiated settlement, though he provided no specifics on what obstructed a potential agreement.

In a move that raised eyebrows, Trump praised Putin for stating that the war in Ukraine would not have occurred under Trump’s leadership. He used the opportunity to criticize President Joe Biden, accusing him of failing to prevent Russia’s invasion.

Calling the meeting a “10 out of 10,” Trump hinted at future discussions with both Putin and Zelensky. Meanwhile, Putin proposed a follow-up summit in Moscow, which may have caught Trump by surprise.

Analysts say Putin came out ahead, enhancing his image on the global stage and demonstrating Russia’s enduring influence. While the summit yielded no immediate results, it has intensified diplomatic intrigue as the world watches to see what comes next.
