The government has announced another significant initiative aimed at improving public convenience in Lahore. The bustling commercial hubs of Old and New Anarkali, Nila Gumbad, and Bakshi Market—located at the city’s core—are being transformed into pedestrian-only zones. Vehicular entry will be strictly prohibited in these areas, allowing only foot traffic.
This decision comes in response to persistent traffic congestion in these marketplaces, which has caused serious difficulties for pedestrians, particularly women, and created challenges for traders. By converting these areas into pedestrian-friendly spaces, the government aims to ease movement, enhance safety, and improve the overall shopping experience.
