The Punjab government has announced a comprehensive modernization of its law enforcement and traffic management systems, drawing inspiration from Japan’s advanced policing model.

The initiative was unveiled by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during her official visit to Tokyo, where she reviewed Japan’s integrated emergency response and policing systems.

Smart Traffic Management to Begin in Lahore

As a major part of the upgrade, Punjab’s traffic infrastructure will be transformed through the introduction of smart traffic control systems, enhanced surveillance, and automated response tools. Lahore will serve as the pilot city for this Japanese-style traffic model, which aims to improve traffic regulation, reduce accident response time, and ensure real-time data sharing between departments.

Advanced Surveillance with Infrared and Ultrasonic Systems

To elevate policing standards, Punjab will deploy infrared and ultrasonic technologies for surveillance and field monitoring. These advanced tools, commonly used in Japan, will help boost detection accuracy and speed up emergency response efforts across urban and rural areas.

Virtual Police Stations and Digital Integration

The government also plans to establish virtual police stations and enhance digital reporting options. Citizens will gain access to mobile applications for emergency services, traffic updates, and online complaint registration. This will be supported by expanded CCTV surveillance and advanced data analytics to improve crime tracking and resource allocation.

Japanese Model to Be Localized

During meetings in Tokyo, officials from Japan’s National Police Agency briefed the Punjab delegation on centralized monitoring systems, inter-agency coordination, and data-driven decision-making. Punjab intends to adopt and localize many of these practices.

The initiative will also include training programs, technical partnerships, and long-term collaboration with Japanese institutions to ensure smooth implementation.
