WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature called Writing Help, designed to assist users in composing messages more quickly by providing AI-generated text suggestions.

The tool allows users to choose from different tones — such as professional, humorous, or supportive — and can be used in both direct messages and group chats. By tapping the newly introduced pencil icon while drafting a message, users can view multiple AI-generated versions and select one or ignore them entirely.

According to WhatsApp, Writing Help runs on Meta’s Private Processing technology, which ensures that neither Meta nor WhatsApp has access to the original message or the generated suggestions. The company stated that the system was reviewed and validated by members of the security community to guarantee privacy.

The feature is optional and disabled by default, ensuring that those who prefer manual messaging can continue without changes. WhatsApp emphasized that enabling Writing Help does not compromise user privacy.

Initially available in English for users in the United States and select countries, WhatsApp plans to expand the feature to more languages and regions later this year. Experts believe it will also make its way to Pakistan soon.
