The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a serious warning of a flood threat as the River Chenab is expected to overflow near Head Muhammad Wala in Multan on Tuesday night.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that all access routes to the site have been closed, and the district administration is on high alert. He added that controlled breaches of embankments may be carried out if required.
Kathia reported that nearly one million people have been evacuated across Punjab, while the death toll has risen to 41. He also cautioned that the Sutlej River is expected to hit high flood levels in the coming days. “The next 24 hours are particularly critical for Head Sangnai. If conditions worsen, areas like Pir Mahal and Khanewal may also be affected,” he said.
So far, over 3,200 villages have been submerged, displacing around 2.4 million residents. In Lahore, low-lying areas remain under water, with drainage work still ongoing.
