The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry has long been a guaranteed spectacle, filling stadiums and generating massive revenues from ticket sales and advertising. Yet, for the first time, this tradition faces an unexpected challenge during the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

The highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India, scheduled for Sunday, September 14, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, has not sold out—even just days before the game. Normally, tickets for this marquee encounter vanish within minutes of release, but this year, large numbers remain available, including premium seating.

Analysts point to several reasons behind the slump. Chief among them is the controversial new “package system,” where fans are required to purchase bundled tickets covering multiple matches, including less sought-after fixtures involving teams like Oman and the UAE. Many fans, uninterested in paying extra for matches they don’t plan to attend, have been deterred by the system.

Exorbitant pricing has also fueled criticism. Some premium tickets are priced as high as $3,000 USD (PKR 855,711), while mid-tier seats also remain financially out of reach for many. Combined with the lingering political tension following an armed conflict in May, the spirit of the game appears muted this year.

The India-Pakistan clash—historically the hottest ticket in cricket—now finds itself in an unusual position, with tickets still available. Whether organizers will address fan concerns and release single-match tickets remains uncertain, but the buzz and spectacle of this rivalry may not carry the same firepower in 2025.
