5G’s Impact on Smartphones over the Next 5 Years

As much as 5G was only introduced less than 5 years ago, its implementation has only really started to gain traction in countries such as the United States, Europe, and India in the recent past. A new era of innovation and transformation is about to dawn in the smartphone industry as a result of the race for 5G technology that is on. In the next 5 years, 5G will be able to transform the smartphone market in 3 different ways, as described in the following paragraphs.

  1. Better Smartphone Technology

A new era of smartphone technology is about to dawn as 5G technology ushers in a new age of connectivity. A 5G network with a low latency characteristic and improved download and upload speeds is likely to lead to a wide adoption of VR, XR, and AR applications in the near future due to the low latency properties of the network. In the past few years, there have been several technologies that have been available, but have been limited by the capabilities of current mobile networks. It is expected that smartphones will be able to provide users with more immersive and interactive experiences thanks to 5G technology.

  1. Larger 5G coverage

There will be an impact on the telecom industry as a result of 5G. As a matter of fact, most commercial deployments of 5G have relied on non-standalone 5G (NSA 5G), which uses new radio technologies, but still relies on existing network infrastructure in order to function. There are a number of ways that telecom giants can deploy 5G today by leveraging the ecosystem and models that have already been implemented for mobile broadband and enhanced mobile broadband while extending this with a more powerful cellular network connectivity. Consequently, there will be a larger and wider 5G coverage area, which will mean smartphones will be able to access faster internet for longer periods of time as well as stay on faster internet for longer periods of time.

  1. Smartphone Affordability

With premium 5G smartphones expected to cost as much as 1000 USD for millions of customers, this imposes significant pressure on the balance sheets of telcos. There is a possibility that up to 10% of the amount will be used for smartphone-related affordability options for receivables. As a result, telcos could offer more attractive financing options for customers looking to upgrade to a new 5G smartphone as a result of this. The smartphones companies will also be releasing more affordable 5G smartphones to the public in order to appease telco companies and keep them happy.
