iPhone 14 leaks have already exposed some of the new smartphones’ top features and the biggest issues. However, now Apple has leaked the long-anticipated upgrade that hundreds of millions iPhone as well as iPad users are likely to need.

As reported by 9to5Mac Apple accidentally released a brand new support document on its site to explain a new dual USB-C charger, which allows the iPhone and iPad to charge quickly as well as charge an additional accessory like Apple Watch. Apple Watch Bands 2022.

04/11 Update: Renowned analyst and insider in the industry Ming-Chi Koo added further details to the announcement of the new charger. Kuo says that the charger’s parts are “nearing production in mass” and Apple anticipates shipping as many as 3 million units by 2022. Since iPhones do not include chargers, that is quite a lot and — given that it’s not cheap -it suggests that there’s some compelling reason (faster charging? *cough*) to Apple customers to purchase it in large numbers.

Kuo previously announced the charger’s launch in March, and he also stated that it will use GaN technology. GaN (Gallium Nitride) chargers are more efficient and a higher energy density than traditional chargers. This allows them to provide speedier charging in small dimensions. Apple has already announced the initial GaN charger, a 120W powerhouse that is included in the brand new MacBook Pro. A major change is in the works and the iPhone appears to play a role.

04/12 Update: pictures of Apple’s brand new Dual USB-C charger have been leaked by accessory expert ChargerLAB and show an intriguing design. According to ChargerLAB says: “It adopts foldable prongs as well as, unlike other chargers two USB-C ports are placed side each other.”

ChargerLAB is correct in my opinion. As far as I am aware, this concept is the first of its kind in the market. The ports on most Dual USB-C-powered chargers are set vertically, which makes managing the chord more challenging in certain situations, especially when using large cables. The charger features two dimples, making it more comfortable to hold — a unique feature in this market. In the end, this is an iconic Apple and is a late entry into the market but offering distinctive design.

In addition the charger is quite compact — definitely much smaller than the most dual USB-C GaN chargers, and possibly smaller than Anker’s Nano Pro (though that delivers 40W). In comparison to Apple’s current 30W monster, this is at a different level.

All of this will draw attention to Apple’s plans for improving iPhone and iPad quick charging. In the following article, rival devices are now charging with a higher power of 2-5x than iPhones. True, iPhone battery capacity has increased significantly over the last few time (the iPhone 12 was a uncommon step backwards) however, having the capability to add 50% battery life to an iPhone within 15 hours (it has been 30 mins at present) could be a huge attraction to a large number of people.

The story will be a raging success, especially since ChargerLAB declares that “We’ll be bringing more information on this charger very soon.”

“Use your Apple 35W USB-C Dual Port Power Adapter as well as an USB-C cable (not provided) for charging your gadget,” wrote Apple in the support documentation. Apple has also leaked the main specifications. The new charger supports four different charging methods including 5VDC/3A and 9VDC/3A as well as 15VDC/2.33A as well as 20VDC/1.75A with a maximum output of 35W.

It’s a major improvement over what Apple is currently offering in this area. At present, the most comparable models are 30W and 45W chargers which have one USB-C port. It is likely that the charger will be significantly smaller, too, with high-efficiency GaN charging that’s with a hotly tipped.

In addition the speed of iPhone charging is talked about for some time , but it hasn’t materialized. With Android competitors hitting 120W and offering fully charged in less than 20 minutes launch of the dual charger could be the catalyst to see Apple improve its performance also.

I am sure we will know more in the near future. Apple has announced WWDC on June 10, in which iOS 16 can be announced and the next generation iOS beta software has an extensive track record of leaks about forthcoming Apple devices.

It’s obvious that more charging capacity won’t suffice by itself — especially when paired along with iPhone 14’s mediocre design, split performance , and the increased price. However, to iPhone 14 Pro buyers it could tip the scales together with their massive new cameras.
