The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is looking forward to organizing its eagerly-awaited Asia Cup tournament from August 27th until September 11th of 2022, exactly as planned.

In light of the current conditions that is currently prevailing in Sri Lanka, the ACC after lengthy deliberation has agreed that it is appropriate to relocate the event away from Sri Lanka to the UAE.

The ACC is aware of the loyal Sri Lankan fans, hence the decision to alter the venue was very complicated, yet one that was essential. However, the hearts of everyone ACC members are united with the cricket-loving country from Sri Lanka.

The ACC is committed to supporting the game and its fans and is grateful for the tireless efforts put forth by SLC to ensure that the tournament is played as planned.

The Honourable Jay Shah, President, ACC saidthat every effort was put into hosting this year’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the decision to transfer this venue over to UAE was taken following a great deal of debate. The UAE will host the new venue, while Sri Lanka will continue to keep hosting rights. This year’s Asia Cup is extremely important because it will assist Asian teams prepare for ICC World Cup, and I would like to thank the SLC as well as the Emirates Cricket Board for their willingness to cooperate and understanding.

The Honourable Shammi Silva, president of SLC saidthat we are excited to host our Asian neighbors who are in Sri Lanka for the much-anticipated Asia Cup. While I am fully in support of the ACC’s decision of shifting this year’s Asia Cup to UAE considering the present context and size of the tournament, Sri Lanka Cricket will cooperate in conjunction with both the ACC as well as the Emirates Cricket Board to ensure that we will enjoy a memorable version of the Asia Cup.

Ms Khalid Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman, Emirates Cricket Board: The Emirates Cricket Board takes great satisfaction in the UAE being selected as the next location to host the Asia Cup. It is the ECB is always prepared to assist Member Boards, and those of the ACC along with Sri Lanka Cricket have our wholehearted support. The ECB also said that we have the necessary infrastructure and look forward to welcoming cricket teams from the UAE.
