A new option for users to stream YouTube from their mobile apps appears to be being tested by YouTube. It has been reported by the latest leak that YouTube is going to have a new stream quality option called “1080p Premium” that will be described as having “Enhanced bitrate”. There will be a new stream option available for YouTube Premium users in the near future. The ‘regular’ 1080p option also exists, along with quite generously compressed ‘regular’ 1080p options.
YouTube Begins Testing 1080p Premium Stream Option on Mobile App
According to the report, a new option that allows users to stream 1080p at a high-bitrate would address users’ desire to watch higher-quality videos, which they address by switching to a 1440p or 2160p (6K) option when it becomes available. It is possible that this new option will reduce YouTube’s operating costs in order to meet users’ desire to view higher quality videos from their mobile devices.

The news follows shortly after the news of Susan Wojcicki’s departure as YouTube’s chief executive officer. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not this change is due in part to Neil Mohan’s appointment as YouTube’s new CEO. According to some reports, the “1080p Premium” video option may also limit 60fps and 120fps videos to behind the YT Premium paywall, in addition to the “1080p Premium” video option.
There is a monthly fee of $12 for YouTube Premium, which is currently available. YouTube Music Premium is a subscription-based service that provides you with ad-free videos, background playback, offline video download, and ad-free browsing. There is currently a growing subscriber base for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. It now has around 80 million users in Q4, 2022.
