Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, reached a significant milestone in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Sunday by surpassing 3,000 PSL runs, a feat unmatched by any other batter. In a thrilling run-chase, Azam showcased his prowess by scoring 68 runs off 42 balls, which included 4 sixes and 4 fours, marking his 29th half-century in the league. His consistency and hunger for runs have now placed him in an elite club within PSL history.
Opting to field first after winning the toss against the Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi faced challenges as their bowling lacked discipline and direction throughout the innings. Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel capitalized on the loose deliveries, dominating the Zalmi bowlers.

The Gladiators posted an imposing total of 206-5, with Shakeel and Roy scoring 74 and 75 runs respectively. Shakeel’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award for his debut half-century in the PSL. Despite notable contributions from Saim Ayub and Babar Azam, Peshawar struggled to mount a significant challenge, especially after the dismissal of their opening batters. However, spin maestro Abrar Ahmed’s effective bowling in the middle overs and Mohammad Amir’s precise death bowling helped contain the Gladiators’ onslaught to some extent.
Looking ahead, the Quetta Gladiators are set to face the Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium tonight, although there are concerns about potential disruptions due to rain.
