Bangladesh Clinches Historic Series Victory Over Pakistan with Dominant Performance
Bangladesh successfully chased down a target of 185 runs on the final day of the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, securing a 2-0 series win against Pakistan on Tuesday. This victory marks Bangladesh’s second overseas Test series win, following their triumph over the West Indies in 2009. Notably, it is also the first time Bangladesh has achieved a clean sweep in a Test series.
The visitors outperformed the hosts, winning by six wickets after starting the final day needing just 143 runs to clinch the series. This defeat is Pakistan’s second loss in a home series, the first being against England in 2022.
Bangladesh was well-positioned at the end of the penultimate day, with Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the way. Zakir Hasan contributed 40 runs in the second innings, while Shadman Islam added 24. Shanto and Mominul Haque scored 38 and 34 runs, respectively. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 22 runs, and Shakib Al Hasan added 21 to seal the victory.

Bangladesh’s dominance was evident from their strong first-innings performance, where they posted a total of 262 runs in 78.4 overs. Liton Das was the standout performer, scoring 138 off 228 balls, while all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a valuable 78 from 124 balls.
For Pakistan, bowlers Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, and Salman Ali Agha made significant contributions, with Shahzad taking six wickets, while Hamza and Agha claimed two wickets each.
The match began with a rain-affected first day, and Pakistan’s batting on the second day yielded 274 runs in 85.1 overs, with notable contributions from Shan Masood (57), Saim Ayub (58), and Salman Ali Agha (54). Bangladesh’s bowlers, including Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nahid Rana, and Shakib Al Hasan, effectively contained Pakistan’s first innings.
In their second innings, Pakistan, starting with a 12-run lead, managed to score 172 runs in 46.4 overs, with Agha leading the scoring with 47 off 71 balls. Despite rain interruptions, Bangladesh maintained their momentum and successfully chased down the target on the final day, securing a historic 2-0 series win.
