Pakistan is preparing for a major milestone in space exploration, with its first moon rover mission scheduled for launch in 2028. Citizens are encouraged to submit name suggestions, with the best entry receiving a monetary reward.

Pakistan’s iCUBE-Qamar Satellite & Lunar Exploration

In May 2023, Pakistan successfully launched its satellite iCUBE-Qamar in collaboration with China’s Chang’e 6 mission. The launch took place at China’s Wenchang Space Center in Hainan, making Pakistan the sixth country to send a satellite into the Moon’s orbit.

Advanced Technology for Lunar Imaging

The iCUBE-Qamar satellite, developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in partnership with Shanghai University and SUPARCO, is equipped with two optical cameras designed to capture images of the lunar surface.

Part of a Historic Lunar Mission

This satellite also played a role in the world’s first mission dedicated to collecting samples from the Moon’s far side.

SUPARCO’s latest initiative marks another step forward in Pakistan’s growing space exploration ambitions, inviting public participation in naming the nation’s first lunar rover.
