Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced that the Africa-1 submarine cable project will be fully operational in Q1 2026, enhancing connectivity between the UAE, Europe, and Africa.
Strategic Connectivity Initiative
PTCL, in a stock exchange filing, revealed that Africa-1 will feature multiple landing stations across different regions, strengthening global communication infrastructure.
Investment and Progress
The Board of Directors approved an investment of $59.5 million in November 2020 for the project. Since 2021, PTCL has been contributing to the initiative as part of its Capital Expenditure (CAPEX). By 2025, approximately 75% of the total investment will have been utilized, with the full project cost expected to be reached within the year.

Revenue Generation & Growth Impact
The submarine cable is set to achieve Ready for Service (RFS) status in early 2026. Once operational, PTCL will begin generating revenue, positively impacting its top-line growth and expanding Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
Groundbreaking Event at Karachi Landing Site
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Africa-1 high-capacity submarine cable is scheduled for February 22, 2025. The event will mark its landing at PTCL’s site at Sea View, Karachi, representing a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital connectivity expansion.
